Rwanda marked a milestone in September 2025 by hosting Africa's first public demonstration of a self-flying electric air taxi at the Aviation Africa Summit in Kigali. The EHang EH216-S eVTOL aircraft, a fully autonomous electric vehicle certified for two passengers, took off pilotlessly to about 100 meters, witnessed by President Paul Kagame, Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority officials, and over 1,700 delegates from 50+ countries.

This demo leverages Rwanda's drone expertise in medical deliveries to address urban congestion and tourism links.
