Air Sierra Leone Set for Comeback as Flights Resume After Industry Shake-Up

Freetown–London and Banjul routes to relaunch in October 2026 following Ascend Airways’ sudden collapse.

If you recall, on April 28, 2026, UK-based airline Ascend Airways unexpectedly went into liquidation after just three years of operation, citing a fuel crisis and rising costs. A company email later revealed that the collapse was driven by a combination of economic pressures, soaring UK operating costs, and a lack of contracts.

Ascend Airways, at the time of liquidation, specialized in providing aircraft to other airlines, with clients including Oman Air, Air Sierra Leone, and TUI Airways.

In a positive development, Air Sierra Leone has announced that its flights from Freetown to London and Banjul will resume in October 2026, signaling a renewed commitment to regional and international connectivity.
