Go Digital! Apply for Your Sierra Leone Permit Through the Official Portal
Only biometric permits issued online are now recognized nationwide.
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Employment, Labor, and Social Security and the Immigration Department have introduced 17 vehicles and 20 motorcycles to support the new digital Resident and Work Permit system.
Developed with Constrat Systems under a 15-year agreement, the platform launched on January 1, 2026, and connects with the National Civil Registration Authority to simplify biometric verification and processing.
The grace period for foreign nationals to update their status ended on March 31. From April 1, only biometric permits issued through the official online portal or offices are valid. Enforcement teams will now begin checks, with penalties of $3,000 for Resident Permit violations and $5,000 for Work Permit violations.
The Government of Sierra Leone recommends that all applications for resident and work permits be submitted through the Official Online Portal.
